Erica Spiegelman is a UCLA trained California State Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CADAC). Erica and Joe C. chat about Book Expo America (New York City 2015) and his reaction to her new book, Rewired: A Bold New Approach to Addiction and Recovery. To recovery, we have to get real - be authentic. That's a far cry from "fake it 'til you make it" isn't it?
Is this a new, bold modality? Or is it a fresh look at age-old wisdom? Why become the author of our own recovery? The Buddha would say, “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” For those who think Jung, as in Carl Jung, “Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
Erica looks at a dozen ideas: Authenticity, Honesty, Evolution, Solitude, Time Management, Self-Care, Healthy Relationships, Gratitude, Compassion, Love, Affirmations & Intentions, and Hope.
We also look at AA's structure (inverted triangle) and how critical this paradigm is to new members taking responsibility for their own recovery and finding groups with a unique way to carry it's message to the addict (or alcoholic) who is still suffering.
