Goldilocks syndrome? Let's add this to our AA inventory taking.
January 24th, 1971, 51 years ago Bill W died. How would he have weighed in on this: Another AA central thinks it can kick out an AA meeting for being to "out there." I know, according to AA creed, central offices never rescind the rights of members and groups. The service structure serves--never governs--groups. But drunk-on-power rogue General Service Offices "servants" do drunk thinks: they act with impulsivity instead of thoughtfulness, they react to emotion and regret it later. As Bill W wrote about trusted servants acting in haste, and realizing our wrongs later, "...that we who condemn them are the Pharisees whose false righteousness does AA the deeper spiritual damage." So GSO (UK) booted out some Jesus freak AA's, removing them from the list for being too religious. That's right, just last decade, it was the secular AA groups being excommunicated for not being religious enough. That's Goldilocks Syndrome. Overreaching stewards want AA to be just right... not too hot, not too cold.
This GSO has AA in the news again with journalists having their way with our foolish ways. So we're looking at what happened, and what our play book (our AA Service Manual) says about inalienable rights are and how we can better deal with unpopular and peculiar groups of AA. Read/Listen or both to Episode 67

Rev. Ward B Ewing has been engaged with AA since 1975. As a class A trustee (non-alcoholic), he was voted to the AA General Service Board chair from 2009 - 2013. He has been a champion of inclusivity in AA. Ward's efforts to make AA a more welcoming place for atheists and agnostics got him invited to be one of our speakers at the International gathering of secular AA members in Santa Monica in 2014. He has a new book. Based on lessons learned in AA and the changing demographic of creed in America, Ward has written
