AA isn't something that happened in 1935, codified in a book first published in 1939. That's part of the history, not only of AA but of the 12-Step culture that followed. But if we are to survive another 80 years as a culture, won't future generations look back to the early decades of the new millennium and offer up a score-card as to what we got right and what we got wrong? So we are part of history, not merely an audience to it.
Today’s show includes an Academy Award winning actress, a Taoist folk song by a Canadian alt-rock band, excerpts from the legacy of Ernie Kurtz and an announcement about a new book that may be ushering in a new era in 12-Step history. The late Ernie Kurtz was an important figure in the second generation of Alcoholics Anonymous—that represents all of us members who came around after the founders had passed away.
At the time of producing this show I’m getting ready for a trip to New York City. I am going to AA archives to do some research about we freethinker, humanist, post-theist, agnostic, atheist, apa-theist, secular members. I am also going to Book Expo America. I am going to learn more about the publishing industry, the old guard and young Turks will be there and workshops will cover blogging content, new technology and marketing. I hope to interview some other authors. I look forward to reporting back on my research findings.
